The January blues are a reality for many as we struggle to get back up and running after the festive season.
But if this feeling continues, how do you know if it’s time to jump ship?
How Do I Know When the Time is Right?
Dreading going into work each day? Having a tough time at work? It could be time to think about moving on if:
Your friends and family have had enough of hearing about how shocking your day was
You’re not sleeping well
Even small things make you anxious and stressed
You’re not productive
You have little enthusiasm for your work
Planning a Successful Job Search
It can be exhausting looking for a new job while still working but breaking it down into manageable chunks can help it seem less overwhelming e.g.
Update the CV/LinkedIn profile
Create a target company list and reach out to contacts in those areas for advice/information
Be strategic about how you look for jobs - sign up for a small number of job alerts from key sites and continue to work your network
Make sure you put adequate time in the diary to prepare for interviews.
Making the Most of Your Current Job
If the timing for a move isn’t right, the good news is there are still things you can do to make the most of your current job and retain your sanity.
Try job crafting. Playing to your interests and strengths will make you happier and bring new meaning to the day job, as well as helping to build your skills set and make you more employable elsewhere.
Remember too that any job will have ups and downs and finding ways of managing your stress levels will benefit you wherever you go.
